Why he might be annoying:

He had a tall, skeletal frame.
Ironically, he never read comic books.
He had never heard of Batman prior to working on the show.
When first asked to play Alfred, he said it 'was the most ridiculous thing' he had 'ever heard of.'
He was a cousin of everyone's favorite appeasing prime minister, Neville Chamberlain.

He was the first member of the 'Batman' cast to be chosen.
