Her book 'Forever' was sexually explicit yet was available in high school libraries.
Her Margaret character made the term 'I must, I must' synonymous with the need to increase one's bust.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was a late developer.
Her books covered touchy adolescent issues such as menstruation, breast size, sexuality and birth control.
She holds a strong anti-censorship position.
She said 'Fear is often disguised as moral outrage. They want to believe that if their children don't read about it, their children won't know about it. And if they don't know about it, it won't happen.'
She defended Harry Potter books when the series was being criticized as evil.
She is ranked in People Magazine's 25 Most Intriguing People (1998).
