Figure Skater

The Resume

    (January 20, 1940- )
    Born in Queens, New York
Five-time US and World Champion (1956-60)
Won silver (1956) and gold (1960) Olympic medals in women’s figure skating

Why she might be annoying:

She starred in the godawful movie ‘Snow White and the Three Stooges’ (1961).
Despite the box office failure of her first movie, 20th Century Fox offered her another starring role in ‘Love in a Cool Climate.’ She turned it down since the film would have required her to learn how to sing and dance.
The Chicago Tribune called her ‘something of a forgotten champion,’ noting ‘She gets lost between Tenley Albright, the first US woman to win the Olympic figure skating title, and Peggy Fleming, the first champion that television turned into a star.’

Why she might not be annoying:

She was the first female skater to land a double axel jump (1953).
After the 1956 Olympics, she received several offers to turn pro and join an ice show, but her mother, Marie, who was terminally ill with cancer, asked her to stay an amateur and win a gold medal for her.
She was unanimously ranked #1 by all nine judges at the 1960 Olympics.
During her series of World Championships, she also attended New York University, graduating shortly after the 1960 Olympics.
She used part of her salary from ‘Snow White and the Three Stooges’ to pay college tuition for two of her siblings.
She has been married to fellow Olympic gold medal winning skater Hayes Jenkins for over 50 years.
