Why she might be annoying:

    West Virginians complained about the dialect she had the characters use in 'Shiloh.'
    She said about the rush of attention after 'Shiloh' won the Newbery Medal, 'You are happy and half scared out of your wits, all at the same time.'
    The sexual content of the 'Alice' books resulted in the series topping the American Library Association's list of most challenged books (2003), ending a four-year run by J.K. Rowling's 'Harry Potter' books.

Why she might not be annoying:

    Her favorite book growing up was Mark Twain's 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.'
    She was married to Rex Naylor for 52 years, until his death.
    In addition to the expected plethora of children's lit awards, she won an Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America for 'Night Cry.' (1994)
    She said about parental objections to the 'Alice' books, 'It's not that their child's not ready. It's that they're not ready.'
