Why he might be annoying:

In a matter of a very few weeks, he went from soldier, to international hero to DWTS.
His being cast in DWTS shows how ABC producers very loosely define a star!
He chose the Journey single 'Don't Stop Believin' for his Jazz performance.
During the late stages of the competition, he surpassed fellow contestants who were technically better dancers and higher scorers than him, particularly Carlos Penevega and Alexa PenaVega.
He was supposed to attend community college after the train incident but chose to compete on 'DWTS.'
During the media blitz over being hailed as a hero, he met and had his photo taken with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
    Kendall Jenner crushes on him.
On Instagram, he posted a photo of himself with Spencer as his friend was recovering from stab wounds in the hospital; the injuries stemmed from a separate incident.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He served in Afghanistan.
He was the underdog of DWTS, Season 21.
He and his partner Lindsay Arnold pulled in perfect scores during the finals.
His rhumba performance with Emma Slater during Mix-up Week had judges and audiences heated.
While on vacation, he and his two friends attacked and disarmed gunman Ayoub El-Khazzani on the Thalys train that left Amsterdam and was heading to Paris; El-Khazzani was carrying 270 rounds of ammunition. (August 21, 2015)
His Army Soldier's Medal was personally presented by Barack Obama and his Legion of Honor award was presented by French president Francois Hollande.
While rehearsing for Week 4, he had to interrupt practice to return to Oregon as a gunman opened fire in the school (Umpqua Community College) where he was enrolled.
After his premiere dance, Carrie Ann Inaba called his performances one of the best dances of the night and host Tom Bergeron praised him for his service and heroic deed.
