Why he might be annoying:

He removed relics from their origin country.
He desecrated tombs of kings.
He slept in the tomb he was investigating at night.
In retirement, he often spent his time sitting in isolation.
He was forced to resign from the Antiquities Service in 1905, for allowing site guards to beat drunken French tourists trying to gain access to his site.

He is a painter and sketcher.
He preserved artifacts.
He did not believe in the 'Mummy's curse' which has claimed to have taken the lives of several key members of his excavation team.
