Why Tianjin, China might be annoying:

    The treaty ending the first part of the Second Opium War, which forced China to open up to foreign powers and pay a huge indemnity to them, was signed here. (June26-27, 1858)
    From the latter half of the 19th Century to the first half of the 20th Century, it was divided into several concessions, each ruled by a different country.
    Locals violently clashed with French Roman Catholics, leading to the Tianjin Massacre that killed 60 people. (June 21, 1870)
    It was overrun by the Boxers during the Boxer Rebellion. (June 1900)
    Once they regained control of the city until 1902, the foreigners destroyed its old walls in order to keep an eye on the locals.
    It is inadvisable for visitors to consume the tap water, even if it’s for brushing teeth.

    It has long served as the gateway to Beijing, the capital of China.
    Many foreign buildings as a result of foreign influence in the past have attracted visitors for their historical heritage.
    It has a well-developed transportation system, making it easy to enter and exit the city.
    At $13,393, it recorded China’s highest per-capita GDP.
    Its economy remains rapidly growing amidst the 2007-2008 international financial crisis.
    It is well-known for its local entertainment, being the home base of Beijing Opera and the home of several famous comedians.
    Founded in 1895, Tianjin University is China’s oldest university.
