He died from consumption hastened by drugs and liquor.
When working as a tutor, he had an affair with his employer's wife (the children's mother).
He claimed to have written 'Wuthering Heights.'

He is considered the most talented writer in the family.
His early works inspired his sister's masterpieces.
He is the model for Heathcliff in sister Emily's 'Wuthering Heights.'
His portraits of his family are some of the only authentic likenesses we have of them.
Author Elizabeth Gaskell considered him another Lord Byron.
