The Resume

    (February 28, 1712-September 14, 1759)
    Born in near Nimes, France
    Marquis de Saint-Veran
Commanding general of the French forces in the Battle of Quebec at the Plains of Abraham (1759, lost)

Why he might be annoying:

He was born into nobility and married to a noblewoman.
He was vain and a firm believer in ‘it's my way or the highway.’
He became an ensign in the Regiment d’Hainaut at age nine. Eight years later, he achieved captainship in the same regiment by purchase.
Despite being outnumbered four to one, he won the battle of Carillon (1758) through the sheer ineptitude of the opposing British leader.
His private tutors considered him pigheaded.
    Quebec separatists revere him.

Why he might not be annoying:

Having successfully petitioned the Comte d’Argenson for 2000 livres, he was able to oversee the education of his five surviving children.
He did not appreciate the constant gambling and lavish banquets of his superiors.
Wounded by a musket ball following the Plains of Abraham (he was 47), he was not upset to learn he wouldn’t survive.
While he had very little respect for his own mutinous troops, he was impressed by the valor of the Wolfe army.
No fewer than four vessels in the French Navy were named for him.
