Why she might be annoying:

She is often called ‘The Little Flower of Jesus.’
She claimed Mary cured her of a childhood illness.
When she was not allowed to join the Carmelite order at age 15, she asked the pope to intervene (he refused).
She often referred to herself as a ‘little child.’
Some find her spiritual writings unsophisticated and maudlin.
She would have preferred to be a priest rather than a nun.

Why she might not be annoying:

When she was four, her mother died of breast cancer.
She encouraged believers to focus on the ‘Little Way’ or small acts of everyday kindness.
She admitted to religious doubt, once writing, ‘Jesus isn’t doing much to keep the conversation going.’
She endured a long, painful death from tuberculosis with few complaints.
She is one of only three women to be made a Doctor of the Church (the others are St. Catherine of Siena and St. Teresa of Avila).
