    Journalist and poet
    Editor of the newspaper 'Atlanta Daily Word' (1931-35) and the news service Associated Negro Press (1935-47)
    Wrote a weekly column for the 'Honolulu Record'
    Published 'Black Man's Verse' (1935), '47th Street: Poems' (1948) and 'Awakening and Other Poems' (1978)

Why he might be annoying:

    He left college without a degree.
    He was divorced twice.
    His second wife was a former student 18 years his junior.
    He joined the Communist Party.
    He wrote a pornographic novel, 'Sex Rebel: Black,' under a pseudonym (1968).
    Far-right loons claimed that he is the real father of Barack Obama.

Why he might not be annoying:

    When he was five, a group of white boys tried to lynch him.
    He helped make the 'Atlanta Daily World' the first black newspaper to succeed as a daily paper.
    He advocated for integration of the armed forces and pro sports.
    He taught one of the first jazz history courses in the US.
    The 'Frank Davis is Obama's father' loons have a running feud with the 'Obama was born in Kenya' loons.
