He ran for mayor of Mount Pleasant, Iowa after the previous mayor was murdered.
He announced he was running for President in 2006; his campaign was over less than 3 months later.
Critics cite his lack of charisma, sense of humor and personality for his failed campaign.
He co-chaired Hillary Clinton's failed Presidential campaign (2008).
The Organic Consumer Association strongly opposed his Secretary of Agriculture nomination.
They complained of his ties to 'big agribusiness.'
He immediately fired USDA employee Shirley Sherrod after a heavily edited video appearing on a conservative website painted her as being racist (July 20, 2010).

He was abandoned by his birth parents and placed in a Catholic orphanage.
He earned his law degree from Albany Law School.
He was the first Democrat to be elected Governor of Iowa in thirty years (1998).

He sported a Winnie The Pooh costume in an effort to promote child literacy.
He accepted full responsibility for improperly firing Shirley Sherrod and publicly apologized to her (July 22, 2010).
