    Composed 'Symphony for Organ and Orchestra (1924); a Piano Concerto (1926); three ballets 'Billy the Kid (1938),' 'Rodeo (1942) and 'Appalachian Spring (1944); and film scores including 'Of Mice And Men (1939),' 'Our Town (1940)' and 'The Red Pony'

    The latter part of his career was influenced by the starkness of Arnold Schoenberg.
    He received over 30 honorary degrees.
    His autobiography came in two volumes.
    He was pretentious enough to write a book called 'What To Listen For In Music (1939).

    'Fanfare for the Common Man' is the opening theme for 'ABC Wide World of Sports.'
    He epitomized American classical music in the 20th Century.
    His music is some of the most easily recognized and influential of the era.
