Poet

The Resume

    (February 10, 1890-May 30, 1960)
    Russian poet/novelist
    Wrote 'Dr Zhivago'

Why he might be annoying:

He originally studied music for six years but then switched to studying philosophy.
He won the 1958 Nobel Literature prize, but declined it because of criticism from within Russia.
He probably wouldn't be remembered at all if it weren't for the film made of 'Dr Zhivago.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He refused to conform to Stalinist requirements in his writing.
He was lucky to survive Stalin's purges of the 1930s and 1940s.
He was best known in post-Revolution Russia as a poet, yet he's only remembered for 'Dr Zhivago' outside of Russia.
He was re-instated into the Union of Soviet Writers in 1987, thus legitimizing his work in the USSR after his death.
