The Resume

    (January 12, 1986-August 30, 2002)
Ran both American and British versions, with the British version becoming the most popular
American version hosted by Art James
British version hosted by Roy Walker (1986-1999), Nick Weir (2000-2001) and Mark Curry (2002)
Spinoff called 'Family Catchphrase' ran from 1994 to 2002
Premise: Contestants guess a phrase being represented on a giant screen, often featuring the show's mascot, 'Mr. Chips'

Why Catchphrase might be annoying:

The bonus prize was a vacation.
The show struggled to remain successful after Roy Walker left.
Nick Weir broke his leg while recording the first series.
An infamous episode showed a series of clues that appeared to show Mr. Chips masturbating in front a snake.

Why Catchphrase might not be annoying:

Money amounts were chosen at random.
A then-undiscovered Simon Amstell was once a contestant on the program.
The British version lasted seventeen years longer than its American counterpart.
It was one of the first game shows to use modern computer graphics.
