The Resume

    (January 20, 1954- )
    Born in St. Louis, Missouri
Originated the role of Fats Waller in 'Ain't Misbehavin' (1978-82)
Provided the voice of Oogie Boogie in 'The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)' and King Gator in 'All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989)'
Portrayed Old Deuteronomy in the original Broadway run of 'Cats' (1982-2000) and in the direct-to-video film version (1998)
Acted in 'Torch Song Trilogy (1988),' 'I'll Do Anything (1994),' 'The Devil and Daniel Webster (2004),' and 'Dreamgirls (2006)'
Recorded 'Oogie Boogie Song' and 'Let's Make Music Together'

Why he might be annoying:

He performed in Cats for over fifteen years. Case closed.
His brief musical number in 'All Dogs Go to Heaven' was so out of place that it is the namesake for TV Tropes' 'Big Lipped Alligator Moment': an over-the-top scene that comes out of nowhere, makes no sense, and has no connection to the plot.
He got arguably the most disturbing part of 'Nightmare Before Christmas,' in which (spoiler) the Boogie Man sodomizes a captive Santa Claus - on Christmas Eve no less - and sings about his intention to boil him alive and eat him (oh, and did we mention he's into bondage?)
If he ever hoped to reprise his role as Old Deuteronomy in the theatrical film version of Cats, his hopes would have been dashed when the role was gender swapped so Judi Dench could be cast.

Why he might not be annoying:

He made his Broadway debut in 1976 playing Nicely-Nicely Johnson in an all-black revival of 'Guys and Dolls' (he won a Theatre World Award).
He won a Drama Desk award for his performance in 'Ain't Misbehavin' (1982).
'Nightmare Before Christmas' has attained a cult following and his 'Oogie Boogie' remains a staple fan favorite.
He has reprised his voicing of Oogie Boogie both for various Disney Parks attractions and for several video games, including Kingdom Hearts.
He has developed and performed his cabaret-singer show, Page by Page.
He has returned to his local theater, The Muny, to do a show there nearly every year since 1994.
His being snubbed for 'Cats: The Movie' was about the closest thing to dodging a bullet as there ever was.
