The Resume

    (August 23, 1868-March 5, 1950)
    Born in Garnnett, Kansas
    American poet
Most well known for his 'Spoon River Anthology'

Why he might be annoying:

    He was a lawyer.
He wrote his 'poetry' in free form. That's the kind that doesn't rhyme or have a meter like real poetry.
His first marriage broke up over his repeated infidelities.
    He wrote an autobiography.
    The critics like his stuff.
His second wife was thirty years younger than him.
    He named his son 'Hilary.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a respected literary critic and commentator on American culture.
When he was a child, he lost his younger brother to diphtheria and his best friend in an accident within a year of each other.
He had a very high output for someone who worked full time including:
12 plays, 21 books of poetry, 6 novels and 6 biographies including ones for Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain and Walt Whitman.
For a while, he worked for Clarence Darrow as an attorney helping the poor.
Although never a star, he has had a respectable following over the years.
