Why he might be annoying:

He was a heavy drinker.
During his administration, the Compromise of 1850 was ended with the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which allowed states to decide if they wanted to be a slave or free state (1854).
He was denied the nomination of the Democratic Party so he could not run for re-election (1856).
During his oath of office, he was the only president to say 'I do solemnly affirm' rather than 'I do solemnly swear.'

Why he might not be annoying:

His slogan was 'We Polked you in 1844; we shall Pierce you in 1852.'
Three of his sons died before age twelve, one at three days old, one from typhus at four and the eleven year old in a train wreck.
He won the election with 86% of the vote.
He is the first president to deliver his inauguration rather than just read it.
He is the first president born in the 19th century.
