Why he might be annoying:

An older sister died in infancy.
He witnessed the shooting of an older brother.
He was accidentally maced by police as they arrested one of his brothers.
At 6 ft 2 in and 261 pounds (118,4 kg), he was considered too small to be an offensive end for the NFL. He didn’t fare much better as an outside linebacker.
In the wake of a visit to his alma mater at a basketball game – where he was honored with a Cotton Bowl award – his homosexuality drew the ire of Shirley Phelps-Roper and the Westboro Baptist Church.
His mother did not initially agree with his pursuit of football, the source of many an argument.

Why he might not be annoying:

He majored in Parks, Recreation, & Tourism.
He was the first member of his family to go to college.
While he found his Tigers teammates supportive of his decision to ‘come out,’ he initially kept it a secret from the media to avoid the rumor mill.
His brother Josh – in jail at the time – said, 'I’m proud of him for not becoming like me. I still love him, whatever his lifestyle is.'
A student group organized a counter-protest against the Church in defense of his orientation (‘stand for Sam’).
No previous NFL player had publicly declared their homosexuality.
