The Resume

    (December 2, 1942- )
Born in Washington, District of Columbia
Birth name is John Calvin Thomas
Syndicated columnist, pundit, author and radio host
News correspondent with NBC News during the 1960s and early 1970s
Began a syndicated column with Tribune Media Services in 1984
Joined Fox News as a political contributor in 1997
Host of 'After Hours with Cal Thomas' on Fox News until 2005
Regular panelist on 'Fox News Watch,' from 2008 to 2013
Author of ten books, including 'A Freedom Dream' (1977), 'Book Burning' (1983), 'The Death of Ethics in America' (1988), 'The Things That Matter Most' (1994), and 'Blinded by Might' (1999)
Frequently co-pens 'point-counterpoint' columns with Democratic strategist, Bob Beckel, for USA Today

Why he might be annoying:

He called for there to be a ban on Muslim immigration and the building of Mosques in the wake of the Mumbai Terrorist attacks (2008).
He endorsed the validity of HBO's 'Game Change' film by saying that having a down syndrome baby made Sarah Palin unprepared for the Vice Presidency.
He criticized Presidents Clinton and Obama for giving speeches before Gay Rights advocacy organizations.
He said 'The unpleasant consequences of divorce and sexually transmitted diseases are not the result of intolerant bigots seeking to denigrate others. They are the result of violating God's standards, which were made for our benefit.'
He was widely condemned for calling Rachel Maddow (and the rest of the MSNBC staff) 'the best case for contraception' during a panel discussion at a CPAC event (Feb. 9, 2012).
He was criticized for making several disparaging comments about black women in reference to caricatures of Michelle Obama, claiming that women like Maxine Waters and Cynthia McKinney were 'always angry every time they get on television.'
He elaborated further by saying 'and who are the black women you see on the local news at night in cities all over the country? They're usually angry about something. They've had a son who has been shot in a drive-by shooting. They are angry at Bush. So you don't really have a profile of non-angry black women. [Except for] Oprah Winfrey!'
Because apparently getting mildly upset about your child getting randomly shot in their own neighborhood by an unidentified assailant is something that only black women do (who knew?)

Why he might not be annoying:

    He resembled Walter Matthau.
He is an active supporter of pro-Israeli policies.
He got his start playing a General in a 1950s Sci-Fi anthology series.
His program on CNBC was nominated for a CableACE Award in 1995.
He is good friends with Bob Beckel despite being politically opposed to him.
His daily radio commentaries were heard on more than 300 stations across the country.
He personally contacted Rachel Maddow to apologize to her soon after making his 'contraception' comments.
He worked as a copyboy at NBC News, delivering wire service 'copy' to news reporters in the network's Washington bureau.
White House correspondent Sander Vanocur invited him to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Adlai Stevenson as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations (where he met President John F. Kennedy in person).
