    Born in Hanover, Germany
    Birth name was Friedrich Wilhelm Herschel
    Discovered the planet Uranus (1781)
    Also discovered two moons of Saturn and two moons of Uranus.
    Named the King's Astronomer(1782)
    A founder of the Royal Astronomical Society (1820)

Why he might be annoying:

    He proposed calling the new planet Georgium Sidus, Latin for George's Star, to honor King George III.
    He speculated that the sun had a cool surface protected from its hot atmosphere by an opaque layer of clouds and that it was inhabited by a race of beings with enormous heads.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was the first astronomer to determine that the solar system is moving through space.
    He discovered infrared radiation.
    A successful music teacher and composer, his interest in music led him to mathematics and then to astronomy.
