Why he might be annoying
He presented himself as clean-cut, but many events tarnished that reputation.
He fathered several children out of wedlock.
He was engaged to two women at the same time (actually, that's pretty cool!).
His wife wrote a tell-all book about him.
His nickname was Senator, which was for his aspirations in politics, which never panned out.
He had the reputation of being selfish and egotistical, and tried to hog camera time as much as possible.
He fought teammate Don Sutton at Shea Stadium in 1978, which led to a high profile feud.
He has hairy arms.
He played in 5 World Series, but only won once.
He did an infomercial for Enforma Fat Trapper pills, which turned out to be a total fraud and he ended up getting sued by the FTC.
He always seems to get a large chunk of votes for Hall of Fame election, but will probably never make it due to his personal woes.
Why he might not be annoying
There is a middle school named after him.
In 1974, he became the only write-in candidate for the All-Star game and won the MVP award.
When he left the Dodgers for the Padres, he took out a full-page newspaper ad, thanking Los Angeles fans for their support.
At one point in his career, he played 1,207 consecutive games, the 4th best MLB streak, and best National League streak, spanning nearly 8 years.
