U.S. President
The Resume
(May 8, 1884-December 26, 1972)
33rd U.S. President (Dem, 1945-53)
Was Senator from Missouri and Vice President
Succeeded President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who died in office (1945)
On election day, many people went to sleep thinking he lost to Dewey, but he pulled out a victory (1948)
Why he might be annoying
He is the only U.S. president to order an atomic bombing (Nagasaki, Hiroshima - 1945).
He fired General Douglas MacArthur for not following his orders.
He had no middle name and just put the 'S' in because it looked cool.
He threatened to punch out a music critic for poorly reviewing his daughter's piano recital.
He is the last President who did not attend college.
He did attend law school, but dropped out.
Why he might not be annoying
He was left handed.
He survived an assassination attempt.
He 'gave 'em Hell.'
He took responsibility with his epitaph, 'The Buck Stops Here!'
He contracted diphtheria and was left temporarily paralyzed for a few months (1894).
Although this happened when he was ten, his mother pushed him around in a baby carriage (how humiliating).
