Williams in ‘Street Legal’ (1991-92), Leo Shannon in ‘Da Vinci’s Inquest’ (1998-2005) and Dr. Sherman Cottle on Battlestar Galactica (2004-09)
    Appeared in the films ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’ (1969), ‘Oh! Heavenly Dog’ (1980) and ‘Tron: Legacy’ (2010)
    Provided the voice of the American president in CBC Radio One’s ‘Canadia: 2056’ (2007-08)

    In credits, his name was sometimes misspelled as ‘Donnely’ or shortened to ‘Don.’
    He was married five times, divorced four times.
    He said about his stint on ‘The Young and the Restless,’ ‘It was before soap operas became respectable. I’d tell people what I did for a living and I’d always get this look of wounded sympathy.’

    Before becoming an actor, he was a warden in the National Park Service in Manitoba and a mechanic in the Royal Canadian Air Force.
    He was a member of the first class to graduate from Canada’s National Theatre School.
    His appearance on ‘Battlestar Galactica’ was meant to be a one-shot, but the producers liked his performance enough to make the role a recurring one.
    He received Gemini Awards (the Canadian equivalent of an Emmy) for Best Actor in a Leading Dramatic Role (2002) and Lifetime Achievement (2006).
