She was a master of the fine art of getting male reporters to carry her bags when she was following the campaign trail.
Ted Kennedy said, 'She is so gentle until she gets to the typewriter.'
She received a letter from an admirer who declared 'I want to make the name Mary McGregory a household word.'

A reviewer noted that 'irreverence, intelligence and wit colored her reports.'
