The Resume

    (October 2, 1929-July 1, 2016)
Born in Surrey, England, United Kingdom
Directed documentaries for the National Film Board of Canada and PBS
Formed the advertising agency Hardy Shaffer Ferguson Avery with Anthony Shaffer
Directed the film ‘The Wicker Man’ (1973)

Why he might be annoying:

While filming the final scenes of ‘The Wicker Man,’ a goat pissed on him.
‘The Wicker Man’ was heavily edited by its distributor, and it took over 30 years before the director’s cut was shown in England.
He directed only two more feature films, neither of which lived up to ‘The Wicker Man.’
He was married four times, divorced three times.

Why he might not be annoying:

‘The Wicker Man’ was called ‘the ‘Citizen Kane’ of horror films’ by Cinefantisque magazine.
He created a horror classic without showing any bloodshed.
In addition to his directing career, he wrote historical novels and was an advisor for historical theme parks.
When ‘The Wicker Man’ was remade with Nicolas Cage (2006), he said that he had nothing against remakes in general, but ‘I didn’t realize what a total mess they were going to make of it.’
