Why she might be annoying:

    She changed weight classes in 2008 from the 63 kilogram division to the 78 kilogram division.
    However, she could not compete in the 2008 Summer Olympics because the United States judo team failed to qualify in that division.
    Prior to her win, many observers and experts underestimated her expectations.

Why she might not be annoying:

    She survived abuse from her former judo trainer Daniel Doyle.
    She became a strong advocate against domestic abuse.
    She won the gold medal at the 2010 World Judo Championships.
    She became the first American Olympian to win a judo gold medal (August 2, 2012).
