The Resume

    (November 8, 1777-December 17, 1860)
    Born in Marseille, France
Birth name was Bernardine Eugenie Desiree Clary
Married French general Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte (August 17, 1798)
Became Queen Consort of Sweden and Norway when her husband became King Karl XIV Johann (1818-44)

Why she might be annoying:

When she first visited Sweden after her husband became heir to the throne, she hated the snow so much that she cried (1810).
Queen Charlotte described her as shallow and 'a spoiled child.'
After one year, she left Sweden for Paris, ostensibly for her health, and refused to return for twelve years.
After her husband's death, she took to sleeping during the day and spending the night riding in a carriage through the streets of Stockholm or in circles around the royal palace.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was engaged to Napoleon, who jilted her for Josephine de Beauharnais.
She was then engaged to French General Leonard Duphot, who was shot during a riot in Rome shortly before the wedding date (1797).
Queen Charlotte said she could be generous and pleasant 'when she chose to be.'
She observed, 'A woman can usually get what she wants from a man if she has a well-developed figure.'
