    Born in Zurich, Switzerland
    Birth name was Johann Heinrich Füssli
    Swiss-British Romantic and Gothic painter
    Best known painting is 'The Nightmare' (1781)
    Also created series of paintings based on scenes from Shakespeare and Milton

Why he might be annoying:

    He was ordained as a minister but never practiced.
    He changed his last name to make it sound Italian.
    He had an affair with Mary Wollstonecraft, which ended when his wife rejected Mary's suggestion of menage a trois.
    He said, 'I hate clever women. They are only troublesome.'
    He allegedly took opium and ate raw pork before going to bed to induce nightmares and inspire his paintings.

Why he might not be annoying:

    Encyclopedia Britannica wrote that his paintings were 'among the most dramatic, orginal and sensual works of his time.'
    After his death, his wife destroyed a number of his erotic drawings.
    He influenced William Blake.
    In the 20th century, the expressionists and surrealists hailed him as a kindred spirit.
    H.P. Lovecraft wrote, 'Fuseli really brings a shiver, while a cheap ghost story frontispiece merely makes us laugh.'
