Organization

The Resume

    (November 17, 1871- )
    Annual budget of $200 million
Puts out 11 publications, including 'American Rifleman' and 'American Hunter'
Organization to protect the rights of Americans to have and use guns legally

Why National Rifle Association (NRA) might be annoying:

They celebrated the expiration of the Assault Weapons Ban, even though 2/3 of Americans supported the ban (September 2004).
They use the illogical argument that cars kill more people than guns, not taking into account the amount of cars being used at any given point versus the number of guns. It also ignores the secondary argument that if heart disease kills more than cancer, should we ignore cancer?
They compiled a blacklist of celebrities, religious groups, businesses, organizations and networks who support gun control.
The blacklist includes the AARP, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Y.W.C.A. and the Christian Publishing Society.
They have become one of the largest, intimidating and most powerful interest groups in Washington.
They spent over $1.5 million on lobby activities during 2003.
They held their 1999 convention in Denver, Colorado shortly after the Columbine school shooting.
Michael Moore's documentary 'Bowling for Columbine' mocked them.

Why National Rifle Association (NRA) might not be annoying:

They defend their interpretation of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
They teach gun and hunter safety classes to adults, and have special classes for children.
They have over four million members.
Some members feel an armed American public will play an important role in the war on terror.
They offer several shooting competitions for police officers and gun enthusiasts.
Due to their buying power, an NRA member can get great discounts on insurance rates, hotels, rental cars and gun accessories.
They have a student loan program to help pay education expenses.
