Basketball Player

The Resume

    (March 10, 1926-May 22, 2015)
    Born in Sand Springs, Oklahoma
Played for the Harlem Globetrotters (1947-53,1972-79)
Played over 1,000 games in over 100 countries
    #20 retired by the Globetrotters

Why he might be annoying:

His college coach threatened to kick him off the team for showboating.
He left the Globetrotters after an acrimonious financial dispute with owner Abe Saperstein and formed his own barnstorming team, the Harlem Magicians.
He turned down an offer from the Philadelphia Warriors that would have made him the second highest paid player in the NBA after he learned that Saperstein was a part owner of the Warriors.
He refused to reveal his age: 'I'm 38 and holding, but just how long I've been holding is my little secret.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He grew up in a three-room shack without electricity or plumbing.
While at Langston University (1942-46), he led the basketball team to a 112-3 record, including a 59-game winning streak.
He was considered one of the greatest ballhandlers in basketball history.
In a game in which fouls left the Globetrotters with only four men on the floor, he dribbled for almost the entire fourth quarter to run out the clock.
He became the first person inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as a Globetrotter (1998).
