    On his first records, he was billed as 'Oak Cliff T-Bone.'
    He and jazz musician Charlie Christian disputed which one of them was first to play electric guitar.
    He suffered chronic ulcers from overwork and excessive alcohol consumption.

    B.B. King said that 'Call It Stormy Monday' inspired him to begin playing guitar, adding 'That was the best sound I ever heard.'
    His playing and his acrobatic stage moves, such as doing splits and playing guitar behind his back, influenced Chuck Berry.
    Rolling Stone magazine said he 'invented the guitar solo as we know it.'
