    Five-time All-Star (1942,1947-50)
    Coach for the Yankees (1951), New York Giants (1957) and Detroit Tigers (1958-59)
    Last surviving teammate of Lou Gehrig

Why he might be annoying:

    He sang in a barbershop quartet.
    Yankee publicity touted Joe DiMaggio and him as best friends, but he later admitted that they never socialized off the field.
    He shaved three years off his age, which he said was to make up for the time he had wasted playing softball.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He missed three years of baseball serving with the Coast Guard in World War II.
    Sportscaster Mel Allen nicknamed him 'Old Reliable' for his clutch hitting.
    He hit the first World Series walk-off home run (Game 1, 1949).
    DiMaggio called him the smartest player in baseball.
    Manager Casey Stengel said, 'If he comes back to the hotel at three in the morning when we're on the road and says he's been sitting up with a sick friend, he's been sitting up with a sick friend.'
