    (February 19, 1958- )
Born in Morley, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom
    BBC researcher and production manager

Why she might be annoying:

Her early attempt at writing a romance novel was summarily dismissed by Mills & Boon (the Brit equivalent of Harlequin Romances).
She said she cringed when Barbara Walters called her ‘the grandmother of chick lit.’
She tried to write a ‘serious’ novel, ‘But then when I read it back, it was awful. It had all these portentous sentences.’
Like Bridget Jones, she is a devotee of self-help books.
One critic wrote, ‘For some men, and indeed some women, [Bridget Jones] was gleeful proof that women were indeed the marriage/baby/calorie-obsessed idiots they had always suspected.’

Why she might not be annoying:

She was part of the Oxford revue at the Edinburgh Festival (1978), where she became friends with comedian Rowan Atkinson and screenwriter Richard Curtis.
She said about her children, ‘I love the way they bring you down to earth.’
She said about feminist criticism of Bridget Jones, ‘Nobody worries about what Bertie Wooster is saying about masculinity... If women are not confident enough to laugh at our shortcomings in public, we haven't got very far at being equal, have we?’
In a survey by ‘The Guardian,’ ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’ was named one of the ten novels that defined the 20th century.
