Why he might be annoying
He was a gambler.
He attempted suicide due to depression.
He married his eleven year old first cousin.

Many of his associates died of TB.
His parents, the Poe's, were actors and died before he was three.
He was adopted by the Allan's who provided just the bare essentials for him.
He was a good student at the University of Virginia but had to leave when he couldn't afford to continue.
He and his father, John Allan, fought constantly over money (sound's like Marc's dad).
