U.S. Governor

The Resume

    (March 4, 1950- )
    Born in Paint Creek, Texas
Birth name was James Richard Perry
Lieutenant Governor (1999-2000) and Governor (2000-2014) of Texas
Announced he was running for President of the United States (August 13, 2011)

Why he might be annoying:

He is a Democrat turned Republican.
He vetoed a bill to ban the execution of mentally retarded inmates (2002).
He issued an executive order mandating the HPV vaccine after receiving $6,000 in campaign contributions from the vaccine's manufacturer, Merck (2007).
At a 'tea party' protest (April 15, 2009), he claimed Texas had the right to leave the union and added, 'If Washington continues to thumb its nose at the American people, who knows what may come of that.'
He apparently failed to notice that Texas already tried to exercise this alleged right in 1861.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was an Eagle Scout.
He was a captain in the US Air Force.
A state senator said of him, 'He has a direction, but he's not vengeful or overhanded in trying to accomplish it.'
He is the longest-serving governor of Texas.
