The Resume
(1881-1961)
Birth name was Simon Metz
AKA Schlitzie - Nickname was The Pinhead
Acted in 'The Sideshow (1928),' 'Freaks (1932),' 'Tomorrow's Children (1934)' and 'Meet Boston Blackie (1941)'
Suffered from microcephaly, a birth defect which produced a smaller than normal cranium
Why he might be annoying
Even though he was a man, P.T. Barnum put him in a dress and exhibited him as 'Maggie, the last of the Aztecs.'
He was thought to have 'personal hygiene' problems and wearing a dress would make it easier for him to use the toilet. This was later dispelled as a myth.
He was exploited in the films he appeared in because he didn't have mental capacity to know any different.
He went by a presumptuous single name.
Why he might not be annoying
He had a higher than normal intellect for a microcephalic.
His sister also suffered from the defect.
He had a keen sense of humor and a likable personality.
After 30 years as a freak, he was put into an institution, where his health began to fade. A Canadian promoter heard of his plight, rescued him and got him gigs until he died of natural causes at the age of 80.
