Despite being a Catholic and graduate of Catholic University, he was twice divorced.
He has done commercials for everything from Publishers Clearing House to Budwieser Beer to Alpo Dog Food to Insurance.
He had a habit of treating Johnny Carson like an idol; he laughed at everything Carson said.
He liked to drink, sometimes to excess.
Why he might not be annoying
He co-hosted the telethon for muscular dystrophy.
He was a fighter pilot during World War II.
Although he liked to drink, much of the time it was blown out of proportion to cover Johnny Carson (Carson admitted to being a closet alcoholic).
His famed trademark, 'Heeeere's Johnny,' was used by Jack Nicholson in 'The Shining.'
