Elected circuit court judge of Etowah and then Chief Justice of Alabama

Why he might be annoying:

When he was a circuit court judge, he opened court with a prayer.
He hung a poster of the Ten Commandments in his courtroom.
He was ordered by a court to remove it (1996).
He used the attention to get votes and was elected Chief Justice.
He then snuck a 5000 pound granite Ten Commandments monument into Alabama's Supreme Court in the dead of night (2001).
After a Federal Court ordered it removed, he still hypocritically defied the judge's order.
He encouraged supporters to hold vigils outside the courthouse, but he did not join them.
He approved of people lying down in front of the monument and being arrested.
Alabama was fined $5000 per day (tax payers money) until it was removed.
Alabama moved the monument and removed him from his position as chief justice.
He helps to pitch a Ten Commandments pin for $9.95.
Revering a monument is held by some to be idolatry which the Ten Commandments forbid.

Why he might not be annoying:

He holds numerous degrees.
He served in Vietnam.
He rose to the rank of Captain in the Military Police.
He said: 'If we did everything a Federal Judge told us, slavery would still be legal.'
He stood up under great legal pressure for what he believes in.
Eighty-percent of Alabamians said they would elect him governor (2003).
