Why he might be annoying:

He and Caravaggio were mortal enemies, always taking every opportunity to insult him and even sued him and other artists for libel.
He painted Caravaggio as the Devil in 'Sacred Love and Profane Love'.
Ironically, he adopted part of Caravaggio's style.
He was part of a Roman art squad who honored the god Bacchus through debauchery.
Art historian Steven F. Ostrow described his paintings as 'extraordinarily uneven, at best, competent, and his work pales in comparison with that of many of the contemporary artists he emulated'.
    He was obsessed with status.
His biography on fellow artists in Rome contains many errors and biases on his part.
The quality of his work declined in the 1630s.

Why he might not be annoying:

He continued to have a successful career despite being overshadowed by other artists.
He had long attracted commissions from aristocrats and the Papal court.
On the other hand, Steven F. Ostrow also said that his chalk and pen and ink drawings 'reveal a force and lyricism rarely found in his paintings'.
Flaws aside, his biography was an important source of various famous figures of his time because of the meticulous details he recorded about them.
He also focused on artists' works accessible to the public in his biography.
    He suffered from deafness.
